Water hardness


If your water comes from underground limestone or chalk rocks, or contains a proportion of groundwater, then the chances are that it is hard. The hardness is caused by the presence of minerals dissolved from the ground and rocks by the water.


Hardness is caused by naturally occurring calcium salts, mainly bicarbonates, dissolving in the water as it passes through certain types of rock. Hard water causes scale build-up on pipes and fittings, and requires the use of more soap and detergents to produce the same results as soft water in traditional window cleaning.

A great thing about a hand held TDS meter is that it allows you to track continuously how pure your water levels are around your WFP system. At some point, if you are unable to get a reading as low as you wish, such as a TDS reading around 005ppm, it's properly time to change your de-ionising resin because as the TDS becomes higher the windows can start to streak and spot.

A in-line TDS meter can be install in your system and used in-place of the handheld unit. With this kind of TDS meter installed you can take a TDS reading of the systems pure water output at any time, even when the water fed pole system is in use.


This could be handy, say for instance, if you are on site window cleaning and topping up at the same time, with a touch of a button you can take a reading and be confident of your waters purity.

A TDS meter, basically measures the level of contamination in

water.


There are two electrodes in the probe which measure a current passed through the water, the more contamination in the water, the higher the TDS reading will be, a TDS meter should read 000 for ultra pure water.

RO units require very little maintenance or monitoring to perform satisfactorily over an extended periods of time, and as such can be very cost effective.
